Portion Control Tips

I have been a Registered Dietitian for over 30 years. The question that I am asked most often is “what can I eat”? Sometimes people will begin to list foods”, asking “Can I eat rice? What about potatoes? What about shrimp?” The list goes on and on. I am always delighted to tell people that it is not what you eat, but how much eat. “Moderation is the Key”. I love pulling out my measuring cups and showing proper portions sizes of food. I recommend everyone pulling out those measuring cups or purchasing some from the store. Most people are very surprised to see what ½ cup of potatoes look like. It is true, when we control portions, we control calories. When we control calories, we control our weight.
